Property tax "reform"

Property tax "reform"

I'd like to know much more about the proposals to decrease Florida's property taxes - the pros and cons of Amendment 1. On the surface, I tend to think that South Florida is sticking it to North Florida. AFter all, Jacksonville's fiscal management has been conservative for many years. I am worried that many people will just hear "reduced property taxes" and not realize the cost to services, police, fire, and schools that would result.

Property Tax Amendment

I understand there is much difference between south Florida and the remainder of the state.  Revenue from the State to the School Districts are varied and from what I hear, favor south Florida.  In the back of my memory are other such issues.

One thing is for certain, the current law limiting increases to the assessed value of a homestead to 3% is a big benefit I do not want to give up.

I do not understand why the current benefits of homesteading your primary residence should be extended to all homes, property or businesses.

If we are concerned with the efficiency of our local governing bodies, hold them accountable.  VOTE NO on Amendment 1.

Vote NO!

I agree, percy!  Vote NO or once again S FL takes our $$.  We voted in our local politicians and WE can change local policy through those we elected.

Don't give the state sooooo much power!  Vote NO!

I don't know!

I am not sure our local governments are still not wasting significant amounts of money. I also don't understand how paying less taxes gives more of our money to S. Fl.?? Could you explain that to me?

I want to be much better informed on the specifics of this proposition before I place my vote and I hope our paper does an in-depth series of articles explaining the specifics and both side of what will happen if the proposition passes.

I know

Voting YES helps everyone in Florida. This stuff about South Florida is just smoke intended to defeat the amendment with twisted nonesense. Less tax is less tax is less tax.
