McCain: "Explosive To Say The Least"

McCain: "Explosive To Say The Least"

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is playing up what I believe will be on the Democrats' main attacks against Republican John McCain - his "temperament."

Quote: "John McCain doesn't have the proper temperament to be President of the United States."

In other words, McCain has a temper.

So what? Is that - or should it be - a deciding factor in whom to vote for?

Politicians' tempers

Tempers flare pretty often in the Georgia governor's office, even with reporters present.

Zell Miller was famous for his temper, though his storms usually blew over quickly. Sonny Perdue is known to turn red with rage, from his collar to the top of his bald head.

Even Jimmy Carter boiled over in private, according to some reports.

The question is whether those tempers served them well or badly while in office. For example, Miller was delighted to learn his agency heads feared him, as was the case with Roy Barnes' chief of staff when he was in office. But Perdue staffers say they've benefited from the cooperation and shared ideas that have come from agency heads who didn't quake every time they got a call from someone in the governor's office.
