McCain "Hearts" Clinton

McCain "Hearts" Clinton

John McCain recently gave high praise to one of his chief rivals - Hillary Clinton - during a campaign stump.

Words like "admire," "respect," and "deserves credit" flowed from the Republican's mouth.

And as the story from the Politico points out, there's probably an ulterior motive. McCain may very well respect and admire Clinton, but he's no fool.

Reading the tea leaves I'd say McCain is offering another option to Clinton supporters for November, especially those who aren't too keen on Barack Obama.

  What do you think?

GOP's favorite opponent

Republicans all wanted to run against Hillary Clinton a year ago, says Sen. John Ensign of Nevada, the chairman of the Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee. But now, they all want to run against Barack Obama, the most liberal member of the Senate.

Ensign made the comment Monday in response to a question I asked during a sitdown with political reporters before a fundraiser in Atlanta. But he said Republicans don't have any plan for dealing with the turnout surge Obama is likely to trigger.

The Clintons -- and Hillary especially -- are like Ted Kennedy for the GOP. The mention of their name reliably generates money from party stalwarts every time. So it will be hard for Republicans to see her fold up her tent. Maybe that's why McCain felt he should thank her.
